Mindset Clinic - The 'Everyone' Mindset

Are you following or leading?

I must have been spiritually absent when the definition of 'everyone' changed! When I hear people say "everyone's doing it" or "it's the in-thing, everyone has it", I look around and think to myself 'WOW, this 'everyone' must be very powerful to be able to muster such a large following!'. That level of gullibility makes me cringe.
Everyone, really? How intriguing that a generation that prides itself on being modern and tech-savvy could be so shallow and operate, so recklessly, with a 'sheep' mentality!
A human being, like yourself, chooses to do something and you decide that your life depends on doing exactly the same; suddenly you start measuring your life and accomplishments by that person's yardstick. You use your own mind to reason professionally, yet borrow someone else's when it comes to personal decision-making. What's up with that? If this so-called 'Everyone' doesn't like your car, let him/her buy you a new one. If s/he is not going to finance a new home, car or wardrobe for you, how come s/he gets to control/decide how you spend your money or live your life?

You follow, rather than set, the 'trend'; that 'sheep' mentality again huh! 'Everyone' is wearing a particular brand (or label) of clothing and you have to wear it; even if it means borrowing, stealing or going into debt! Instead of setting your own sail, you allow yourself to be carried by someone else's, never mind where they are heading!

You toil, then toil some more, for what? So that you can acquire something someone else has that you have managed to work yourself into a frenzy over and now believe you desperately need. Do you really have to over-stretch yourself financially in order to be like the 'Joneses'? Who are the 'Joneses' anyway? Relative of yours? I didn't think so!
